Apple starts rolling out Siri AI in beta with iOS 27, beginning in English
On September 14, 2026, Apple released iOS 27, a free iPhone software update, and began rolling out Siri AI as a beta, meaning an early test version. Apple had announced the date at its September 9 event, where it also introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple describes Siri AI as a new version of its assistant powered by Apple Intelligence, the company's group of AI features. It can use personal context from messages, emails and photos, understand what is on the screen and take related actions, and answer questions on almost any topic. A camera mode lets people ask about what is in front of them.
At first, Siri AI works only on devices set to English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish due in October. Apple has also said Siri AI will not launch in the European Union at first, citing the EU's Digital Markets Act, a law with special rules for large tech platforms.
Why it matters: Phone assistants are one of the most common ways people use AI in daily life, so this update brings newer AI features to a very large group of users.
